File Locker Superpower

Updated May 20, 2026

The File Locker is your personal file hosting on Teacher Hive. Upload an image, PDF, audio clip, video, slide deck, or dataset once; reference it from any app you build.

What you can store

  1. Images (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP) to use inside your apps
  2. PDFs (reading passages, handouts, rubrics)
  3. Audio (read-alouds, pronunciation guides, songs)
  4. Video (demos, exemplars, mini-lessons)
  5. Slide decks (PowerPoint, Keynote, PDF exports)
  6. Datasets (CSV, JSON) for data-driven apps

How it works

  1. Open My File Locker from My Settings or the navigation menu.
  2. Drag a file in or click the drop zone to upload.
  3. Give image a descriptive label (name).
  4. Enter any tags to help you find the file later. Consider tagging with the app's name where you'll use the file.
  5. Click Upload.
  6. You can now Copy URL. Give this URL to your AI chatbot to include in your app.

Give your AI multiple file URLs

Select two or more files using the checkboxes. A toolbar will appear with these options:

  1. Copy URLs Only to copy the file links
  2. Copy URLs with Labels for AI to copy labeled links that help AI tools understand which file is which

Labeled links are especially helpful when sharing multiple images with AI.

Storage limits

  1. 5 MB per file
  2. Hive Builders, 50 MB total storage.
  3. Hive Pro, 2 GB total storage.

Builder and Pro users can access the full File Locker feature set. The difference is just how much you can store.

Unlocking for AI

By default, File Locker files only work inside apps with an apphive.us web address. This keeps AI chats and other websites from opening your files.

When you upload a file, AI access is automatically unlocked for 12 hours. You can also manually unlock your File Locker for 12 hours to preview files inside your AI chat.

What happens if you stop using Teacher Hive

Your files stay forever while your account is active. Active means a single login or a single visit to any of your apps within a 12-month window. Stop in once a year and your File Locker stays untouched.

If your account goes fully quiet for 12 months, we'll email you a friendly heads-up. One more month after that with no sign of life, your File Locker files are removed. Your apps, profile, and account stay put either way; only the uploaded files get cleaned up. The moment you log in (or anyone opens one of your apps), the clock resets for another full year.

In the Add App form

When you turn on the File Locker Superpower for an app, you'll see a panel of your recent files inside the form. Click any file to copy its URL so you can give it to your AI chatbot.
