Email can be sent from your app while someone is using it, or emails can be scheduled to send to you at regular intervals.
The Email Superpower requires Hive Pro and the Connected Superpower.
Two ways to send
On a timer
Every day, every week on a chosen day, every month on a chosen date, or once at a date and time you pick. You choose the hour, and it goes out in your timezone.
When something happens
Your app watches one of its own numbers and emails you when it reaches a total, climbs by an amount, goes above or below a number, or passes another multiple. A sign-up sheet fills, a class passes a milestone, a new high score.
Teacher Hive rechecks the number as often as every 15 minutes. You can put the number in the subject line, so it reads "Sign-ups have reached 30" in your inbox.
What the email can contain
Anything you write, plus a report Teacher Hive builds at send time:
- Numbers. A labeled figure, like activities finished this week.
- A chart. One bar per day.
- A list. Things your guests made, each one a link.
- A breakdown. One tally split into its parts, biggest first.
Up to 20 rows per email, and up to 10 scheduled emails per app.
Teacher Hive lays out the report and adds its own header. When you code with your AI chatbot, you can add your own heading and colors above it, and set the chart bar color to match. The AI Instructions for the Email Superpower tell your chatbot exactly how to generate the required code.
Setting one up
Describe it to your AI chatbot, the same way you describe the rest of your app.
- On your My Apps page, open the app and switch on the Email Superpower.
- Click Copy AI Instructions.
- Paste them into your chatbot and say what you want and when. Be specific: "every Monday at 7am, email me how many puzzles were finished last week, a day by day chart, and a list of new playlists with links."
- Paste the chatbot's code back into the app and save.
- Open your app once after saving.
Checking it looks right
You can ask your AI chatbot to add a Send Now button to your app. Clicking it sends the email immediately using the exact same process as the scheduled send, so it's an easy way to test that your email looks and works as expected.
A note about previews. When your app uses a Superpower, the preview in your AI chatbot (Claude's Canvas, ChatGPT's Canvas, Gemini's Canvas) won't show the Superpower working. The Superpower only connects when the app is hosted on Teacher Hive. Paste the code into Teacher Hive and test it there.
Good to know
- Scheduled emails cannot include photos or PDFs.
- They count toward the same sending limits as any other email from your app.
- They use some Hive Superpowers Usage. A weekly digest costs about 56 of your 1,000,000 monthly allowance.
