Candy-fueled and costumed students may need some engaging and fun activities. This APP may help channel all that sugar-powered energy into something engaging and fun while keeping the learning going.

After students play a few rounds of Trick-or-Treat Trek, let’s flip the script and turn them into the game designers. Using grid paper and a pencil, each student maps out their own Halloween neighborhood with six streets of three houses each and gives it a punny, subject-themed name, like “Fraction Fang Lane” or “Volcano Vampire Valley.” They fill their map with houses, full-size bar porches, hazards, and mystery stops, then create a map key and set a scale (for example, 1 square = 100 feet) so they can calculate the total distance of their best route. For each porch and hazard, they write one question tied to something we’ve been learning, along with the correct answer and a one-sentence “why” explanation, just like the game does. Finally, partners swap maps, plan a route through each other’s neighborhoods, and use a die to decide chance events: roll 1 to 3 and the dog chases you, roll 4 to 6 and you sneak past. Students can draw, write, or cut and paste their maps, so every learner has a way in, and we end up with a classroom full of student-made review games we can revisit all week.
