Quick answers to common questions about Teacher Hive. If your question isn't here, email hello@teacherhive.app.
Getting started
How do I publish my first app?
You need Builder access first. Once you're a Builder, see Your first app for the 5-step walkthrough.
My Builder Request has been stuck in review. What now?
Most requests are reviewed within a few hours. If yours has been waiting longer than 24 hours, email hello@teacherhive.app and we'll take a look.
Do I have to be a classroom teacher to be a Builder?
No. Instructional coaches, librarians, technology integrators, professors, and homeschool parents are all welcome. We use "teacher" loosely to mean anyone teaching or supporting learners. However, we do not allow students and the general public to add apps to Teacher Hive.
About Hive Pro
Can I try Pro before subscribing?
Educators can request Builder access for free, and Builder unlocks most of the AI Superpower so you can see how Teacher Hive actually feels day to day. Once you're confident, upgrade to Pro for Email, Short Link, and Stats Superpowers in addition to 40x File Locker and Hive Usage. We'd like to avoid issuing refunds, so try Builder first.
What happens to my apps if I downgrade from Pro?
Your apps stay published and File Locker keep working since they're all available to Builders too. Email Superpower stops sending right away, and you can't create new short links until you upgrade again (existing short links keep redirecting). Your Hive Usage and File Locker caps drops to the Builder tier, and you no longer will have access to the My Stats page or detailed app stats.
What if my school's purchase order takes a while to process?
Email hello@teacherhive.app with the expected PO date and we'll keep your account active in the meantime. We'd rather you build than wait.
Can a whole school share one Pro account?
Pro is per-teacher. For school-wide access, we offer discounted School plans that can be managed by an administrator you set for your school, district, or organization.
Apps and content
Why isn't my app loading?
The most common cause is a typo in the HTML or an external script that didn't load. Re-open the App form, paste a fresh copy of the code from your chatbot, and test on Teacher Hive. If the chatbot's preview works but Teacher Hive doesn't, look for CDN links or stylesheets that need to be inlined. You can prompt your chatbot with what's not working and ask it to revise the HTML code.
Can I delete an app I've published?
Yes. Open the Edit form for that app and click Delete at the bottom. Deleted apps are gone for good, including any data your guests have saved.
What's the difference between pausing and deleting an app?
Pausing takes the app temporarily offline without losing anything. Anyone visiting the URL sees a friendly "paused" message; your code, data, stats, comments, and bookmarks are preserved. You can resume any time. Deleting permanently removes the app and all of its data. Use pause for end-of-year, bug fixes, or any time you want to stop activity without giving up the URL.
Can I copy another teacher's app?
Only if the author marked it as copyable. Look for the Make a Copy button on the app's Info page.
Can I embed a Teacher Hive app in Google Classroom or my LMS?
You can paste the app's launch URL as a link, and most LMSes will render it that way. Embedding works for most apps, but apps with Connected Superpower need the launch URL, so they might not work properly when embedded.
Can students use Teacher Hive apps offline?
No. Apps load from apphive.us and need an internet connection. Once an app is open, some apps may keep working briefly if the connection drops, but Superpowers won't function offline.
Privacy and schools
Does Teacher Hive collect student data?
No. Students don't sign in, and Teacher Hive apps should not collect names, emails, or other identifying information. Guests typically get anonymous nicknames generated in their browser. Read our full privacy policy.
Is Teacher Hive safe for K-12?
Yes. No student accounts, no PII collection, no advertising. Share our privacy policy with your district, or email hello@teacherhive.app if your IT team needs specific compliance documentation.
What if Teacher Hive is blocked at my school?
Ask your IT team to allowlist both teacherhive.app and apphive.us. The first is the main site; the second is where your apps actually run. Both need to be reachable.
Are my AI provider keys safe on Teacher Hive?
Yes. Keys are encrypted at rest, never sent to your students, and never visible in your app's HTML. Read more.
