Passage Pal gives students practice writing from sources: reading closely, marking evidence and using it in a written response. Those are the skills state writing assessments ask for, so it can help students prepare for them.

Add up to three passages by pasting text, uploading a PDF, or sharing a link to an article or PDF. Write a prompt with bold, italics and lists, and add a checklist students complete before turning in. Pick one of twelve looks, including High Contrast. Set an optional time limit, word count goal and read aloud. Then share one link.

Students read on one side and write on the other. They highlight in four colors, add notes to highlights, change the text size, use a reading guide, and listen to the passage or prompt read aloud. Pasting and spell check are turned off in the writing box, so students type their own words. When they finish, they download a PDF of their work or copy their writing into a doc and turn it in wherever you ask, like Google Classroom.

Privacy: no one signs in. Everything a student types, highlights and notes stays in their own browser and is never sent to Teacher Hive or to you. The passages, PDFs, prompt and photos a teacher adds are saved on Teacher Hive, and only people with the link can open them.
